Viva La Vie Boheme!

No Day But Today!

RENT is coming back to NY. Jonathan Larson’s incredible rock opera based on Puccini’s La Bohème is finally making its way back to the stage. They have heard our demands and the candle will be lit again. The show will once again be directed by Michael Greif, but the cast will be new and unknown. The show opens July 14th at the New World Stages, Off-Broadway. For tickets and information updates you can head over to siteforrent.com. I wish I had more to tell you but this is all I know for now. So for you Rent Heads out there – keep watching…

Interview with a Mayumana Performer

Meet Talia Bik from Israel – One of the performers from Mayumana’s Momentum. We had a great conversation about the show and performing in general. Hope you enjoy!

1) On the show’s website it says that this show was born and grew out of love and devotion, as part of the cast do you get a sense of that?

  • I GET MORE THAN A SENSE OF THAT. MOST OF THE TIME, IT’S WHAT KEEPS THE MAGIC ALIVE FOR ME ON STAGE. THIS IS A VERY LOVING GROUP OF PEOPLE.

2) It also says that the show represents art with no boundaries, creative freedom and the love of life-how do you feel this show represents that freedom and love of life?

  • YOU CAN FEEL THE LOVE OF LIFE IN EVERY ACT OF THE SHOW. EACH ACT HAS A UNIQUE CHARACTERISTIC. WHEN YOU LOVE LIFE, YOU ASPIRE TO LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT… EVEN HARD MOMENTS, SAD MOMENTS, QUIET MOMENTS, ETC. EACH OF THESE ARE REPRESENTED ON OUR STAGE, AND EVERY ACTOR BRINGS HIS OWN LIFE ENERGY. THAT’S THE ASPECT OF THIS SHOW THAT EXPRESSES INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM.

3) What is it like to have a cast from all over the world? Is it hard with the language barrier?

  • WE ALWAYS MAKE SURE TO SPEAK ENGLISH BETWEEN ONE ANOTHER AS WE REHEARSE FOR ALL TO UNDERSTAND AND ABSORB FEEDBACK. IT CAN BE HARD AT TIMES WHEN YOU NATURALLY EXPRESS YOURSELF IN YOUR NATIVE TONGUE. HOWEVER, IT TEACHES US TO ADAPT TO ONE ANOTHER AND BE ATTENTIVE TO OUR SURROUNDINGS.

4) Does it ever get frustrating doing the same thing over and over again?

  • ALTHOUGH WE DO THE SAME SHOW OVER AND OVER AGAIN, NO TWO SHOWS REALLY FEEL THE SAME. THIS IS A RESULT OF THE CHANGING DYNAMIC OF OUR GROUP. IN ADDITION TO THIS, WE’RE ARTISTS AND THIS IS PART OF OUR JOB. THERE ARE ALWAYS PLUSES AND MINUSES, BUT YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO MAKE THE MOST OF WHAT’S IN FRONT OF YOU.

5) The tag line of the show is “if we could only stop time…?” – what would you do if you could stop time?

  • IF I COULD STOP TIME JUST ONCE, I WOULD DUPLICATE THE FEELING I GET WHEN I’M ON STAGE.

6) Does traveling on tour with a company make that company become a family? Are there cliques among the group?

  • TRAVELING ON TOUR IS ONE OF THE MOST EXTRAORDINARY EXPERIENCES ONE CAN ASK FOR. YOU GET TO SEE THE WORLD WHILE ALSO DEVELOPING YOUR TALENT. HOWEVER, IT SURELY BECOMES INTENSE AT TIMES. IT IS ALWAYS IMPORTANT TO FIND TIME FOR YOURSELF.

7) What made you want to perform with this company?

  • THE DIVERSITY OF PEOPLE AND ART CREATED BY THIS GROUP IS WHAT DREW ME TO THEM.

8 ) What’s one piece of advice you would give a kid who’s interested in becoming a performer?

  • I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO SET A GOAL FOR THEMSELVES AND DIVE INTO IT WITH ALL THEIR GUSTO. IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE AUTHENTIC, YOU HAVE TO REALLY DEVOTE YOURSELF TO THE CAUSE.

9) How do you prepare for a show, mentally and physically?

  • BEFORE EACH SHOW, I REVIEW CERTAIN ACTS OF THE SHOW IN MY HEAD FOR PRECISION. I TRY AND EAT A HEALTHY, SOLID MEAL. I ALSO PUT ON ONE OF MY FAVORITE TUNES AND WARM UP.

10) What did you do before you joined Mayumana?

  • BEFORE MAYUMANA, I STUDIED IN A PROFESSIONAL DANCE SCHOOL IN THE NORTH OF ISRAEL, WHERE I ALSO STUDIED THEATER, CIRCUS ART, CHOREOGRAPHY & IMPROVISATION.
